The vet told my wife that this year's hot, dry weather was beneficial to fleas and that the effects of Frontline were minimized. If I recall the vet recommended bathing the pet in Dawn dish-washing liquid which fleas cannot tolerate.
We haven't used Frontline in years. We switched to Revolution and have had way better results. And if the weather this year is supposed to be beneficial to fleas then we haven't noticed it with Revolution. Our chihuahua has had very few fleas this year. The ones she has had have been after being around animals that've had them and they didn't last long.

At D & G Feed Store in BSG, they have a pill that garantees to kill all adult fleas in an hour, then bath them in a good flea shampoo to kill the eggs and larvae, and then give them a dose of advantage/frontline. I works really well, did that to the wife's chihuahuas and they haven't had a single flea since and that has been 2 weeks.
Revolution is also a heartworm preventative, so you get more work out of it for your $.
In general though, fleas and ticks and such are having a banner year. It can be hard to stay ahead of them.
You'll shoot your eye out.
